    Moderation

    Post  F.M.H.B. on Wed Jun 23, 2010 6:03 pm

Before I open up to talk about this, I want to make the distinctions between the two moderator groups clear.

Pacifiers are moderators who do not have the power to ban members and who are relegated to only moderating a few specific sections.
Arbiters are global moderators who can ban and who are not limited to moderating only one section of the forum.

Both groups are never, ever allowed to censor someone, so rest assured that this will not happen. This is a double edged sword because what you post will always stay up there for all to see. Only the most heinous (heh, I love that word) and offensive material will be relegated to an area that cannot be seen. But it will still be there. And if it is criminal and illegal, it will be reported.

Now, with that cheery explanation out of the way, I would like to start talking about who the first moderators should be. I believe that in order for a Pacifier to be selected they will require a 50%+1 majority of all member support, and for an Arbiter to be selected will require a 75%+1 majority of all member support. Ultimately I will have the final say, but if these majorities are met I will let any person so vouched be put up for moderation.

    Thoughts?

Hmm, interesting. I like how the moderation is set up. As for who should be a moderator, I don't know. However, I'll put myself into the ballot since I check the forums pretty much twice a day and check new posts. Also, I've had experience in moderating websites before.

So will people be nominating themselves?
Or will we be nominating people?

Nominations of others only. Nominating of self is a dictatorship.

For now, I'm looking for three Pacifiers and one Arbiter. I don't think we need more right now. I've had larger forums work off less, but I'm looking at a lot of growth on the forum so two should be good.

Some ideas about how to pick a good nomination:

    -Someone who keeps the peace
    -Someone who contributes often
-Someone who is on the site often
    -Someone who can resolve disputes
-Someone who everyone trusts and likes

I think you're a good candidate. If we have enough suggestions, we can have a run off and elections and platforms or whatever you guys want. Haha. Very Happy

I like the idea, and the names. And the usage of the word heinous, for that matter. All very well done. But maybe this is a little premature? I feel like everyone is starting to make progress getting to know each other, but I only know... one person? so far who I've actually met, that being our dear sir Bubbles. Just a confidence in authority thing. Heheh.

Perhaps we should have a mod:memb ratio?
