    Vampires (You said miscellaneous)

If vampires are dead, then are they capable of feeling emotions? More importantly, what happens to their soul?

    Random, but amusing.

Vampires are typically envisioned as being soulless... but I don't think that would stop emotions. The brain makes the emotional responses, after all. They are clearly cognitive.

well than I guess the question falls down to what makes up a soul. If we are saying that emotions and cognitive thought our the brains responsibilities that what does the soul do. If your soul is your brain than...I guess that would mean that the part of your brain responsible for emotions doesn't work anymore?
And if you go with vampire lore the soul of a person turned into a vampire is controlled by their bloodlust until they are killed at which point they are free to go to either heaven if they were good or hell if they were bad. But until then it sounds like the soul is suffering until they can be free from their dark influence. I will let you know if that is covered when I finally decide to finish dracula Wink

I read Bram Stoker's Dracula... very good. I was under the impression that lore is, vampires are the damned. Hellbound is part of the curse, isn't it?

does that work for only the original vampire because SPOILER lucy was saved when she gets the coup de grace from her fiance. Helsing remarks on her return to her normal human appearance and said that she would rest in peace. I don't think Lucy ends up in hell because that would contradict her final moments. Now outside of the story of dracula yeah I think they all go to hell. END SPOILER.

as for the soul part are me considering soul a persons emotions or their personality. because if we go by personality than dracula had a soul(albeit a mess up one) Now if we regard a soul as a persons emotions or feelings, you could argue that his soul was full of hate which I think still counts.

Aha, that's right! I had forgotten about that! I would say they do have souls, because Dracula was supposed to have one himself, but it was simply twisted. As for what happened to Lucy, the same thing actually happens to Dracula also.

To add to my previous post, or rather to clarify, I BELIEVE the same thing happens... it has been a few years, and I'm really not certain.

According to the Dungeons and Dragons guide Open Grave: Secrets of the Undead, vampires have emotions. If it is good enough for D&D, it's good enough for me. Very Happy

Well in addition to what was previously stated about D&D, I would also like to point out that in most cases with conscious undead their soul is simply removed from their body so they would still experience emotions just more diluted. Or perhaps they are soulless unfeeling monsters.

so I think it comes down to personal taste. do you wan tot believe in dracula, the badass near impossible to defeat killer or edward cullen, the angst ridden control freak that 1/2 of all females want to be with? Personally I prefer dracula....

    In vivid contrast, the few
kinds of undead that retain their souls, such as death
knights, liches, mummies, and vampires, are intelligent
beings that retain all the passions and mental
complexities they possessed in life. These creatures
are dangerous and cunning foes, and on rare occasions
    even more dangerous allies.
Some are driven by desires that approach the
intensity of the soulless undead’s need to kill, but
these desires do not utterly control their behavior. For
instance, although vampires hunger for the blood of
the living, this hunger is not the center of their existence.
For many, it is simply a need that must be met,
and they continue to focus their attention on many of
the same passions they had when alive.
Because their undead state eliminates many of the
distractions of life, both positive and negative, undead
that retain souls can be exceptionally careful and
    patient planners.

well two thing seems to be consistent: they are dangerous and intelligent. But does your source describe vampires that have no souls/how they lost said souls? I'm intrigued.

I think you misread that. Vampires are one of the few undead that retain their souls upon transformation.

OH! well what do they do when their emotions flare up? I doubt they take a pill...I guess it just doesn't bother them as much as it would a human. but other than zombies what other undead are there????

It also depends on your definition of undead, because, depending, they could also include demons, angels, devils, daemons, sprites, noxies, fey, nymphs. It's really a diverse term to be honest.

jesus!( and yeah i'm probably going to hell for that one) that's a lot I feel like you just opened a WoW handbook and listed the entire undead faction.
now that i think about it what other religions have people coming back from the dead?

I didn't open the WoW book. Don't insult me. They hardly have any undead in that video game. Sorry if I'm good at compiling data in lists like that.

And as for what other religions? You mean aside from Christianity? Honey, I hate to break this to you, but the majority of undead did not originate from Christianity. Few things do, in all honesty.
